French Pet Lobster Sundress

A nautical, whimsical summer sundress- my original watercolor painting of a French Pet Lobster, hand screen printed onto a lovely American Apparel striped tank dress, with permanent water-based inks!

The lobster's leash reads (in French):
"I have a liking for lobsters. They are peaceful, serious creatures. They know the secrets of the sea, they don’t bark..."

Supposedly the French poet, Gérard de Nerval, would walk his pet lobster with a ribbon. This was his reasoning for adopting a lobster as opposed to a dog!

I recently discovered that Thibault, the lobster, is mentioned in Patti Smith & Sam Shepard's 1971 play 'Cowboy Mouth'.
